Calling all organised leaders! Manage theatre operations, coordinate productions and support a team championing British South Asian stories on stage.

The general manager is a pivotal leadership role at Rifco, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our day-to-day activities, managing personnel and processes, and supporting the delivery of our productions.

This role blends operational leadership with hands-on production support. You will work closely with the artistic director, executive producer, and producer to deliver shows on time, on budget, and to the highest standard. You will also ensure Rifco’s policies, culture, and systems enable staff and freelancers to do their best work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and systems to support growth
  • Oversee budgets, cash flow, and reporting with the producer and executive producer
  • Support the artistic director in strategy and organisational development
  • Manage recruitment, contracts, onboarding, and HR compliance
  • Coordinate production logistics, scheduling, budgets, and resources from planning to delivery
  • Liaise with venues, suppliers, and partners
  • Support the Board with governance and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, safeguarding, and data protection
  • Build relationships with funders, partners, and collaborators
  • Represent the company at industry events
  • Contribute to funding bids and reporting


Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in theatre or arts management, ideally in a producing company
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and HR processes
  • Ability to work collaboratively across creative and administrative teams
  • Financially literate and confident with complex budgets
  • Committed to team wellbeing, inclusion, and open communication

Desirable

  • Passion for access and diversity in arts and culture
  • Knowledge of UK theatre touring and production processes
  • Experience in a producer or general manager role within live performance
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, HR best practice, and safeguarding
  • Organised, proactive, and detail-oriented
  • Able to lead calmly under pressure
