Inspired and informed by the unique historic playing conditions of two beautiful iconic theatres, our diverse programme of work harnesses the power of performance, cultivates intellectual curiosity and excites learning to make Shakespeare accessible for all.

Education is at the heart of Shakespeare’s Globe. We run a year-round programme of activities, courses and events for schools, families, young people, universities, drama schools, scholars and the general public, both on and off-stage. Activities are aligned with values of social justice, access and Shakespeare for all, delivered across the Education Producing, Higher Education, Learning and Research & Collections teams.

The Higher Education & Research Coordinator will support the Higher Education Team in planning, resourcing and evaluating our Higher Education programme of work. They will support the Higher Education team to ensure that each session is planned, staffed and resourced to a consistently high standard.

As a member of both the Higher Education team and Research team, the Higher Education and Research Coordinator will be responsible for the co-administration and successful co-delivery of our Higher Education and Research events. The role is roughly 65% Higher Education work, and 35% Research.


Key responsibilities

  • Acting as Company Manager for selected and agreed Higher Education courses, ensuring students are well supported with their educational requirements in addition to offering pastoral care.
  • Specifically acting as the Company Manager for our flagship academic programme ‘MA in Shakespeare Studies’, in partnership with King’s College London.
  • Coordinating and delivering projects that engage drama schools and universities across the United Kingdom and other Countries.
  • Communicating with faculty, other educational staff & freelance practitioners to ensure that successful bookings are made and managed according to the needs of HE courses and programmes.
  • Working with the Senior Higher Education Manager to ensure that courses are monitored and evaluated in an appropriate way and feedback is appropriately communicated to all stakeholders.
  • Working with the Education Producing team to ensure all Research activities are suitably planned, staffed, and delivered.
  • Managing selected Higher Education events such as Final Scenes Presentations,
  • Receptions and student welcome and inductions.
  • Working with the Education Producers to ensure all HE and Research productions events and festivals are produced to the highest standard and providing planning support for all Research public facing activity.
  • Ensuring the principles of the Globe’s access policy are upheld.
  • Sharing responsibility for the induction and training of new members of the Higher
  • Education team, including support or ancillary staff.
  • Working with the Finance Department and the Higher Education team to ensure the accurate, prompt payment of all freelance staff working on Higher Education courses.
  • Ensuring that all individuals and partner organisations are invoiced in a timely manner.


Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Strong planning and organisation skills.
  • Experience working with creative people and/or academics and/or within a creative and/or educational environment.
  • The ability to respond rapidly and calmly to changing situations.
  • Customer focused approach ensuring high standards of service delivery.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • The ability to prioritise a varied workload to achieve deadlines whilst responding rapidly and effectively to changing situations.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work with discretion and tact.
  • IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
