The National Gallery is seeking a dedicated information systems (IS) infrastructure manager to join our information systems department. Our business teams rely heavily on the availability and security of our information systems to deliver services ranging from ticket sales and exhibitions to finance and human resources. As the IS infrastructure manager, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, commissioning, and maintenance of a resilient and secure systems infrastructure. This includes managing both on-premise and cloud-hosted environments to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the Gallery.


Responsibilities

  • Strategic development of the Gallery’s information systems infrastructure, taking advantage of the opportunities provided by proven new developments that are appropriate to meet Gallery requirements
  • Administration of both physical and virtual servers and associated storage – currently hosted within a virtual environment both on-premises and in the cloud – organising their structure and deployment to maintain a robust and reliable set of services.
  • Ensure that the allocation of resources is optimised to deliver appropriate performance and service availability
  • Ensure appropriate arrangements are maintained for software licences, hardware support and security certificates for infrastructure systems
  • Instigation and management of projects and processes to develop the infrastructure to meet changing business requirements
  • Maintain and develop an available and resilient environment for the delivery of virtual desktops for Gallery staff access both onsite and at remote locations
  • Administer and develop appropriate security arrangements, including anti-virus and operating systems patching for the server infrastructure, integrated with systems used for desktop client security, and multi-factor authentication for system access from remote locations
  • Develop and maintain appropriate procedures and systems to provide offsite data storage capable of meeting the Gallery’s business continuity and information recovery requirements for both its on-premise and cloud hosted information systems
  • Administer and maintain the Gallery’s SQL Server environment, including integration with commercial and bespoke applications
  • Provide support for key specialist desktop applications


Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Demonstration of successful administration of an enterprise-level server infrastructure in a multi-departmental organisation
  • Design and deliver data backup and disaster recovery processes to protect the organisation against data loss or systems failure, including on-premise and key cloud-hosted assets
  • Possess expertise in VEEAM or comparable backup solutions
  • Manage multiple projects, defining and monitoring project plans and objectives, leading the activities to successful conclusion
  • Design, implement and integrate databases using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Design, implementation, and administration of Microsoft Windows-based infrastructure, including Azure Arc , Active Directory domain controllers / associated FSMO roles and PKI implementation
  • Resolve complex technical problems relating to the IS architecture
  • Proven methodical approach to activities, prioritising personal workload and managing the workload of others in a demanding environment
  • Diplomatic but tenacious approach, ensuring that the best value for money is obtained from external consultants and suppliers
  • Flexible approach when responding to organisational needs balancing user needs against not compromising the reliability and resilience of information systems
  • Proven ability to positively and effectively influence thought and behaviour in a complex working environment; effectively communicating information as required to achieve this aim
