Are you a passionate and motivated junior systems developer? We have an exciting opportunity to join our collaborative IT team supporting the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal business systems and contributing to the digital infrastructure that powers our daily operations.

World-renowned illustrated publisher Thames & Hudson is seeking an individual with a solid technical foundation and a passion for learning to assist in designing and testing scalable solutions to meet evolving business needs, provide technical support to users, and help maintain critical data workflows and integrations in a fast-paced, supportive environment.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the senior developer and business analyst to translate system requirements into reliable code
  • Develop, enhance and maintain scripts, integrations, and application workflows
  • Test new and existing functionality to identify bugs and performance issues
  • Respond to first- and second-line technical support tickets and liaise with users to troubleshoot problems
  • Contribute to internal knowledge bases and technical documentation
  • Maintain and support our title management and related systems
  • Work with structured data formats including JSON, XML and CSV
  • Assist with data cleansing, import/export, and validation tasks as required
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across departments to understand their operational needs, supporting and guiding users adapting to system changes or upgrades
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to planning discussions


Knowledge, skills and experience

You will already have:

  • Experience with databases; FileMaker experience is a plus
  • Basic understanding of Python or similar programming languages
  • Familiarity with JSON and API usage
  • An eagerness to learn and develop technical skills
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A detail-oriented approach, be well organised, and willing to take ownership of tasks

Experience in these areas is a plus, but not essential:

  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
  • Experience working with third-party APIs and integrations
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and basic web development
  • Knowledge of ETL pipelines or data modelling principles
  • Previous experience in a publishing or creative industry environment
