Support Channel 4’s financial integrity by delivering accurate reporting and clear insight for decision-making.
The purpose of this role is to provide high quality financial support to the Group Reporting & Control team, enabling accurate and timely financial, regulatory and external reporting across the Group. Working closely with the Finance Manager Group Financial Reporting, the role will contribute to month end, quarter end and year end cycles, support a robust control environment, and assist in enhancing processes and systems across the Finance function.
The role plays an important part in maintaining Channel 4’s financial integrity by ensuring accurate reporting, strong controls and high quality insight that supports strategic decision making.This role is well suited to someone looking to build strong technical foundations in financial reporting while gaining exposure to senior leadership reporting, statutory audit processes and Group level decision making.
Key responsibilities
Financial Reporting (Monthly, Quarterly & Year End)
- Support preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting deliverables, including materials for Government stakeholders (e.g., Department of Culture, Media & Sport Ofcom, Whole of Government Accounts).
- Assist with month‑end close processes, contributing to monthly performance packs for Exec and Board, including commentary.
- Prepare reconciliations, schedules and analyses to support year end audit deliverables and statutory reporting.
- Contribute to accounting papers, technical analyses and Audit & Risk Committee materials.
- Playing an important role in preparing finance sections of Channel 4’s IFRS Group accounts.
- Preparing subsidiary & JV (including D3/4) statutory accounts.
Balance Sheet, Controls & Compliance
- Perform timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations and support quarterly Group-wide balance sheet reviews.
- Support maintenance and continued enhancement of key controls such as manual journal review, variance analysis and reconciliation frameworks.
- Contribute to updating controls documentation including Delegated Authorities Matrix and Key Controls checklists.
- Support embedding of control requirements in process or systems transformation projects.
Business Partnering & Technical Support
- Support Finance colleagues and the wider organisation with technical accounting queries, helping apply and interpret IFRS under guidance.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analysis, modelling and insight relating to projects, investments or operational changes.
- Contribute to standardisation of reporting processes, templates and Chart of Accounts usage.
Management Accounting Support (as required)
- Provide support during month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments and variance analysis.
- Assist with forecasting cycles, annual budget preparation and multi-year planning inputs.
- Provide analysis on spend, performance drivers, cash flow and capex to inform decision making across Finance and the business.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements to simplify, automate or streamline reporting processes.
- Support development or enhancement of dashboards, automated reports and data visualisation outputs.
- Promote best practice across Finance, contributing to efficiency and quality improvement initiatives.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) – can be newly qualified with no PQE.
- Experience in financial reporting, audit or financial control with previous involvement
in statutory audits preparing audit deliverables and involvement in year end processes.
- Solid understanding of core financial accounting principles; keen interest in IFRS and technical reporting.
- Strong analytical capability with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
- Strong Excel skills, comfortable with large data sets.
- Clear communicator able to articulate financial concepts to non finance colleagues.
- Proactive, curious and committed to continuous improvement.
- Collaborative and able to build strong working relationships across teams.
- Enthusiastic and self motivated team player with a strong desire to develop their knowledge
Desirable
- Experience with Oracle Financials and/or Workday Adaptive Planning.
- Exposure to the media, broadcasting or a similarly complex organisation.
