The managing editor will shape and manage the publishing programme to time and budget, from acquisition to launch, lead the team and collaborate with partners to harness the company's growth potential.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full editorial workflow, from manuscript intake through final proof
- Line edit, copyedit, or developmental edit select titles as needed
- Maintain editorial style guides and ensure consistency across all publications
- Ensure files are production-ready for print and digital formats
- Oversee and mentor a mixed team of staff, freelancers and interns, managing workloads, training, and professional development
- Coordinate schedules between editors, designers, authors, and production teams
- Track deadlines, manage calendars, and monitor the status of multiple titles
- Communicate clearly with authors and freelancers to keep projects aligned
- Collaborate with the Aurora Metro Charity on arts and education projects.
- Manage the overall day-to-day business, including operations, budgeting, freelance and vendor coordination, along with workflow optimisation
- Oversee sales and marketing activities, including metadata creation, seasonal planning, and campaign execution
- Work closely with marketing/publicity to create back-cover copy, press materials, and promotional content
- Support acquisitions by evaluating manuscript submissions and pitches
- Contribute to strategic planning and growth initiatives across the company
