The National Gallery has an opportunity for a mechanical and electrical project manager to join the building and facilities department. This post is a key role within the buildings and facilities team and responsible for delivering assigned projects while coordinating works with relevant stakeholders. A strong understanding of project management and health and safety requirements is essential, as these are critical to ensuring projects are completed successfully, on-time and within budget.

The ideal candidate should be self-driven, capable of working effectively as part of a team, and able to communicate clearly with colleagues across various departments. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to developing strategies for the replacement of mechanical plant and equipment, with a particular focus on enhancing energy efficiency and operational reliability.


Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Higher national certificate (HNC) or equivalent in mechanical building services discipline (essential)

Technical knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems including building management systems (BMS)
  • Knowledge of current construction, design and management (CDM) regulations
  • Knowledge of interrelationship of building services including efficiency improvements

Project management skills

  • Strong project planning and management skills including application of departmental resources, consultants, staff and budgets
  • Preparing and maintaining procedural notes and reports to guide project delivery

Problem solving

  • Effective problem solver with proven ability in taking a systematic approach to address safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness while managing uneven workloads
  • Ability to balance resources to meet competing demands, especially in constrained environments

Communication skills

  • Excellent communication and liaison abilities with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written communication skills including the production of clear reports, specifications, procedural notes and instructions will also be a major part of the work
