Recruiting in partnership with Creative Access, The 10 Group is seeking a passionate Media Relations Intern to support their marketing communications and newsroom teams. This role offers hands-on experience with an industry-leading PR team, involving tasks such as creating campaign media lists, outreach and relationship building with print, online and broadcast media and helping with organising UK and international campaigns. The intern will collaborate closely with the media relations and account management teams to ensure the successful delivery of media relations campaigns across a range of sectors.
Key activities
- Working in a live newsroom pitching to journalists across the UK and internationally
- Training in how to use journalist database and media monitoring tools
- Building media lists and conducting client research
- Identifying awards, events and speaking opportunities for clients
- Developing copywriting skills including social copy, press releases and pitching
- Participate in team meetings and gain exposure to the account management process
- Supporting with writing campaign reviews and sourcing coverage results
- Perform other duties as required by the team
What you will learn
Proficiency in using media tools
- Gain practical experience in using media databases and monitoring tools such as Muckrack, TV Eyes and Agility
- Experience in creating targeted journalist outreach lists
- An understanding of how to measure coverage success and write campaign reviews
Pitch creation and distribution
- Work with the team to draft press releases and pitches for journalist outreach.
- Gain experience calling and emailing journalists to land coverage.
- Assist in writing background briefing documents on media and securing interviews.
- Conduct background research to create newsworthy pitch ideas.
Client relations experience
- Gain firsthand experience working with clients, including listening in to meetings, drafting minutes, and managing status reports.
- Support research and brainstorming for new campaign ideas.
- Learn insights into how a successful client account operates.
Professional industry knowledge
- Obtain real-world experience and a behind-the-scenes look at how professional newsroom teams operate.
- Learn how to receive constructive feedback and implement revisions based on client or internal team input.
- Understand how to scan the news to identify new opportunities for clients.
Networking & industry exposure
- Collaborate with other departments, interacting with account managers, copywriters, social experts, and other team members, expanding your professional network.
