Soft Touch Arts is a Leicester-based charity, established in 1986, using arts, media and music activities to inspire and engage young people and help them to develop creative, social and employability skills.
This placement is for an individual to work on the Soft Touch Studios music programme. Soft Touch Studios engages young people who love music and are facing challenges in reaching their ambitions and potential. The programme enables participants to advance musically in an enjoyable way at the same time as developing confidence and skills and a source of social connection.
What you will learn
You will undertake an induction programme to include Soft Touch policies and staff practice covering safeguarding, health and safety, code of conduct etc.
- Planning, delivery and evaluation of participatory music practice.
- Event/performance development and planning skills.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Mental health and regular first aid (accredited).
- Specific awareness around issues such as Autism, ADHD, suicide, self-harm, online safety, transgender/gender questioning young people etc.
- Music skills including production, instrumental playing and gaps and aspirations identified in the development plan.
- How to use social media for communications and marketing.
How you will learn
- Helping to plan, run and evaluate participatory music sessions for young people alongside Soft Touch’s music workers. This includes supporting young people in getting the most out of sessions and using instruments, voice, and production software like Logic Pro.
- Working in a variety of settings - from Soft Touch's building on New Walk to community centres, schools and outdoor spaces.
- Helping to plan and run music showcases with project participants and the music team, to take place at Soft Touch and in external venues.
- Taking part in the Youth Voice group and getting involved in collecting evaluations from young people to feed into Soft Touch's future plans.
- Training and self-study to improve knowledge and skills.
- Participation in Soft Touch team meetings and away days.
What we're looking for
- Someone who wants to share their passions and skills with other young people.
- An individual who recognises and understands the challenges young people face.
- Experience in producing and/or performing your own music but this is not essential.
- Interested in working in the music or wider arts sector.
