We are looking for a dynamic and energetic candidate to manage our biggest paperback and backlist brand opportunities. 

The successful candidate will communicate with in-house teams across editorial, marketing, publicity and sales to ensure our paperbacks and backlist get the attention and strategy they need to refresh market positions and achieve sales targets. 

In conjunction with the editorial team, the Paperback Manager will also identify and coordinate our backlist opportunities and the backlist of our biggest brands, working with a backlist editor to ensure that all title data is up-to-date, opportunistic commercial moments are captured and that backlist and paperback covers are fresh and market appropriate. 

For the role, we will consider a candidate with either an editorial or marketing background. The successful candidate will be a driven and highly collaborative individual who can inspire and bring together colleagues across editorial, sales, marketing and publicity to work collaboratively on book campaigns. 

Alongside the primary editor, this role will liaise with authors and agents, and will help communicate paperback publication plans in-house and out of house. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and curious candidate, looking to expand their responsibilities and work with our amazing publishing team and a variety of amazing authors. 

Reporting to the Head of Bloomsbury Trade, the successful candidate will strategise with them to identify paperback priorities every season; alongside editors will collaborate with sales, marketing and publicity on these campaigns; and ensure that these titles receive attention throughout the life of the paperback campaigns to achieve campaign objectives and sales targets.

Areas of responsibility

  • In conjunction with editors, managing the full life cycle of paperbacks, including paperback planning and performance analysis 
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously and also overseeing the work of a direct report
  • Staying up to date on the latest trends in publishing, successful campaigns and competitive activity in both publishing and marketing, actively contributing to the division’s strategies
  • Drive backlist sales

 

Knowledge, skills and experience 

  • A strong understanding of paperback positioning and successful campaigns, including digital
  • Backlist in all formats including digital and audio
  • Experience working across teams 
  • A great communicator and collaborator
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing projects 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail 

 

Additional information

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday.
