People & talent lead

Salary: This role offers a competitive salary range dependent on experience (£50-60k) and an annual discretionary company bonus.
Location: The role will be based in the office in Soho (4 days in the office / 1 day from home).
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 10am – 6pm (additional hours as required) and 25 days holiday + bank holidays.

As ALR Music continues to expand, we are seeking a pro-active, innovative and dynamic People & Talent Lead to build and lead our HR function from the ground up.
Reporting to the Senior Management Team, the People & Talent Lead will play a pivotal role in creating, developing and implementing HR and People processes, policies and culture to support the Business to achieve its goals. The role requires an extremely hands-on approach, strategic vision, an understanding of the events and/or creative industries, and the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the business.
Responsibilities
Recruitment and onboarding
- Develop and execute a recruitment strategy to attract top talent, ensuring alignment with ALR Music’s brand and values.
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, interviews, and candidate selection, in collaboration with the Senior Management Team.
Talent management and employee development
- Identify and retain key talent across all departments of the business, implementing strategies to support career growth and succession planning.
- Design and implement learning and development programs, such as talks, workshops, and tailored training sessions, to meet organisational needs.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to design effective organisational structures that support business goals.
Policies and procedures
- Create, implement, and manage HR policies, processes, and workflows, for both the permanent team and freelance artist roster.
- Maintain company Handbook.
- Ensure all policies comply with legal and regulatory requirements while reflecting the company’s culture and ethos.
Performance management
- Partake in, and lead when appropriate, bi-annual employee reviews and regular check ins, including the implementation of Personal Development Plans.
- Work with Line Managers to set and monitor performance KPIs, providing guidance and tools to support staff development and accountability.
Employee engagement and internal communication
- Research, develop and lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement and foster a positive workplace culture, including employee benefit schemes.
- Manage internal communication strategies to ensure clear and consistent messaging across the organisation.
Organisational strategy & business development
- Provide guidance on organisational structure and priorities, ensuring alignment with evolving business needs.
- Contribute to business development and strategy meetings.
- Develop and manage the annual budget for staffing, employee benefits and other HR related systems and activities.
Legal and compliance
- Oversee all legal and compliance matters related to HR, including contracts, data protection, and employment law.
- Act as the main point of contact for HR-related audits and ensure the organization adheres to best practices.
Employee lifecycle
- Oversee onboarding processes to ensure new starters have a seamless and engaging start.
- As part of the onboarding process, liaise with Head of Department to ensure hardware, software and other equipment is set-up and ready for the new starter.
- Manage offboarding processes, ensuring smooth transitions and conducting exit interviews to gather insights for continuous improvement.
Day-to-day administration
- Manage online HR platform (Charlie HR) including monitoring and approvals of:
- Annual leave
- Work from home requests
- Sickness & other absences
- Use HR information systems to gather data and insights to drive decision-making and optimise HR processes.
- Maintaining office and employee health and safety training and standards.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Industry expertise experience in the music, events, entertainment, luxury retail or hospitality industry is preferred.
- Experience in an HR-related role or in setting up HR functions within a creative, fast-paced organisation, including strong knowledge of employment law, compliance and best practices.
- Problem-solving abilities: Creative and resourceful in finding solutions to unexpected personnel or company challenges.
- Interpersonal skills & communication: Friendly, personable, and able to foster positive working relationships. Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to deal with any scenario that arises.
- Attitude: A proactive and adaptable approach with a passion for building a positive and high-performing workplace culture.
