Take the lead on key regulatory and policy issues at Channel 4, working with Ofcom, government, and industry stakeholders, while supporting responses to consultations and developing strategies with internal teams.
Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Specialist you will be responsible for monitoring and supporting Channel 4’s responses to a raft of policy and regulatory matters. The role will sit within the Policy and Public Affairs team but work closely with other departments, in particular Strategy and Research, Corporate Affairs and Legal and Compliance.
The Regulatory Affairs Manager will also be expected to take the lead on dealing with and responding on a number of agreed policy and regulatory issues, working closely with Ofcom, the Government and industry stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Support on specific policy and regulatory issues, as agreed with the Senior Manager Policy and Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Affairs Specialist, including background research, working with key departments internally to formulate Channel 4 positions and drafting responses.
- Respond effectively to requests and consultations by regulators and government, with concise written communication and a robust evidence base.
- Maintain a grid of all relevant government and regulatory consultations and progress in developing C4 responses.
- Support the policy team’s engagement with Ofcom and government and develop a sound understanding of regulatory and policy issues relevant to C4 (e.g. Media Act implementation, Advertising, AI and Annual Report).
- Monitor and summarise key industry developments and their impact on Channel 4.
- More generally support the work of the Policy and Public Affairs team in its engagement with external stakeholders, such as central government departments, Ofcom and the broadcasting sector.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- A good understanding of how policy is developed, with a minimum 3 years’ experience working in government or regulated sector or body.
- A high standard of written communication skills.
- The ability to work across a number of different policy and regulatory issues.
- Confident in managing internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of some of the key regulatory and policy issues impacting Channel 4 and the broadcasting sector.
- Awareness and ability to use project management skills and techniques.
- A flexible and strong team player with ability to work across different briefs.
- Experience and knowledge of regulatory processes and policy-making.
Hybrid working
From September 2023, C4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern, equating to three office days per week.
