Have you got what it takes to manage this illustrious book prize? Work alongside authors, publishing professionals, judges and more to help transform culture in Britain and beyond.

We are looking for a prizes manager, a newly created role, to primarily manage the International Booker Prize (IBP) as an integral part of a small, hard-working Booker Prize Foundation team. The prizes manager will report to the director of prizes, while working closely with the wider senior leadership team on all aspects of the delivery and promotion of the IBP, as well as offering ad-hoc support on the Booker Prize Foundation’s wider work, including the Booker Prize, where time allows.

In consultation with the director of prizes, chief executive and the Booker’s advisory committee, they will play a key role in the appointment of the annually changing judging panels for the IBP, and a leading role in supporting them.

The IBP cycle runs from June to May, with judges announced in June, monthly judging meetings from September onwards and the focus of public activity (longlist, shortlist and winner announcements and related events) from February to May.

Responsibilities will include

  • contributing to and implementing the overall vision for the prize, with a view to raising its profile and expanding its audience
  • playing a key role in the appointment of judges, in close collaboration with the colleagues named above
  • liaising with prize judges
  • overseeing the submissions process and delivery of books and taking responsibility for the shape of the judging year
  • working closely with the chair of the judges and the chief executive on setting the group dynamic
  • guiding the chair of the judges, alongside the chief executive, in arriving at a longlist, shortlist and winner
  • developing expertise on the books in contention, in order to advise the rest of the team
  • liaising with publishers
  • supporting authors and translators in all their interactions with the prize
  • providing input into the PR and marketing campaigns for each season
  • working closely with the director of content on editorial content around the prize
  • working closely with the head of digital marketing on social media content around the prize
  • working closely with the director of prizes and communications manager in liaising with an external agency on PR and events
  • advising on guest lists for the prize ceremony and hosting key guests at events
  • liaising with partners in the fields of public events, retail and libraries (e.g. Southbank Centre, leading chains and independent bookshops, The Reading Agency)
  • overseeing the design and production of materials for events, retailers and libraries
  • working with the director of content and head of digital marketing on digital partnership opportunities
  • working with the director of development on broader partnership and funding opportunities
  • working with the director of finance to manage the IBP annual budget
  • proactive project management of initiatives associated with the IBP, such as PEN Presents x International Booker Prize.
