BBC Studios Productions is a global content powerhouse with a unique breadth and range, creating high-quality, award-winning, ambitious content across an extraordinary range of genres and specialisms. The BBC documentary unit is home to some of the UK’s most highly regarded talent, both on and off screen. Across our bases, we craft bold, distinctive content with purpose—entertaining and educating audiences through powerful authored storytelling, a strong sense of purpose and a breadth of specialist knowledge.
We are proud of our culture of inclusion, where teams thrive on collaboration and production management colleagues support one another across locations and projects. Whether it’s the harrowing realities explored in Life and Death Row, the acclaimed access-driven series The Met, the sharp consumer journalism of Rip Off Britain, or the moving and urgent Sarah: The Search for Justice, The Documentary Unit prides itself on being the heart of true and impactful story telling.
We’re opening up a production management assistant (PMA) talent pool as we are anticipating a number of PMA roles needed across our productions in 2026. Currently we are predicting PMA roles on The One Show and Rip Off Britain. These PMA roles are based in MediaCityUK, Salford and will be hybrid working 2/3 days a week in the office along with location and studio based filming when required. Other PMA roles may be appointed on other productions from this talent pool.
How talent pools work
These talent pools are an opportunity for us to reach out and engage with experienced production management assistants who want to work with the documentary unit team. Unfortunately, being in the pool doesn't mean you'll be guaranteed to work with us, but it does mean you'll be considered when opportunities arise. These pools will form a database for us to refer to when opportunities come up. If we approach you and you are not available, don't worry! We understand that's the nature of freelance.
Advantages of being in a talent pool:
- Applying now means you shouldn't need to go through an assessment process for future opportunities
- You don't need to be available now to apply - this is about making sure you're considered for anything we have over the next 12 months
- If you don't know our hiring managers, this is an excellent opportunity to start building relationships with them and show them your skills
