The Stage Media Company Ltd, based in London Bridge, is dedicated to providing up-to-date news and services for the UK’s theatre, performing arts and book publishing industry with two key titles: The Stage and The Bookseller. Both The Stage and The Bookseller are established leaders within their respective fields, offering industry news, authoritative reviews/interviews and insightful features.
The Stage, the publication for the theatre industry, has an excellent full-time opportunity for a reporter to join its small but fast-paced news team. We are looking for someone who will create engaging editorial content of the highest standard for the web, paper and other platforms, conforming to The Stage’s house style.
The successful candidate will have an NCTJ qualification or similar, a flair for writing eye-grabbing copy and be able to work to tight deadlines, for both online and print. The role requires a collaborative, proactive and flexible individual who will be part of a small team and be a supportive member at all times. As Reporter you will be reporting to The Stage’s Deputy Editor. The role will require someone who is highly proficient working across print and web, and will have a passion for theatre and the live arts. The successful candidate will also know how to apply media law and will have a good understanding of SEO.
What you will do:
- Create exciting, insightful and relevant editorial content for the website, newspaper and other platforms, including exclusives and off-diary content
- Meet two daily deadlines for the website, and a weekly deadline for the print edition, and contribute to rolling news output as required
- Source relevant required additional media – e.g. photos and videos
- Create and develop industry contacts
- Represent The Stage at industry events and opening nights
- Regularly communicate with the wider editorial team to contribute to the smooth running of the department
- Liaise with other departments, such as marketing and sales, for the wider benefit of the company
- Always work within accepted style, quality, law and balance requirements
- Provide cover for team members as required
- Oversee the creation of content in addition to news, such as interviews and features
- Undertake data collection and analysis
- Upload content to The Stage website
What we are looking for:
- Recognised journalism qualification
- Relevant working knowledge of UK performing arts and entertainment
- Good working knowledge of media law
- PC and Mac literate
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Working knowledge of WordPress and Adobe CS (preferred)
- Experience of video and audio capture and editing (preferred)
- Experience with data and financial reporting (desirable)

Other information:
Normal working hours are 10am - 6pm, with occasional evening or weekend work to cover events. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring at least three days a week at The Stage’s office on Bermondsey Street, SE1, with opportunities for remote work on the other day.
