We are currently looking for Retail Assistants to join our Retail team on a part-time, 24 hours per week, permanent contract.

The Southbank Centre is Europe’s largest arts centre and one of the UK’s top five visitor attractions, occupying an 11-acre site that sits in the midst of London’s most vibrant cultural quarter on the South Bank of the Thames.

The successful candidates will provide outstanding and consistent customer service to all visitors to the retail outlets and Southbank Centre. Maximising sales opportunities to help drive profit and thereby contribute to the overall success of Southbank Centre.

Please note that this role has regular rostered weekend work required, rostered and variable weekdays and the working day includes variable shift hours. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Engage proactively with customers, fostering a welcoming environment by addressing their inquiries, offering thorough product knowledge, and providing tailored advice and recommendations whenever possible.
  • Implement in-house visual merchandising strategies to create appealing displays that highlight key products and drive sales.
  • Maintain the shop's cleanliness, tidiness, and optimal stock levels to enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Efficiently process sales transactions using the EPOS system, with meticulous attention to detail in handling credit and debit card transactions.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Previous experience in providing a high level of customer service in direct interactions, ideally within a sales setting.
  • Recognition of the significance of providing outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to identify and leverage sales opportunities to enhance revenue generation.
  • Clear and effective communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in operating tills and transactions accurately.
  • Capability to address inquiries from and assist members of the public courteously.
  • Strong team player with the capacity to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Aptitude for exercising initiative and problem-solving skills, particularly in challenging scenarios.
  • Understanding of and dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion within the Southbank Centre and specifically within this role.
  • Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities as reasonably assigned by the Retail Shops Manager or the Head of Commercial.
