Launch your publishing career at Faber, supporting the rights and contracts that bring prize-winning books to life.

Faber and Faber is a leading independent publishing house in London. They publish prize-winning fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books, as well as an unrivalled list of modern poets and playwrights. Among their list of writers, Faber and Faber have five Booker Prize winners and eleven Nobel Laureates and continue to seek out the most exciting and innovative writers at work today.

We are looking to recruit a rights and contracts assistant to provide administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the rights and contracts departments. This is an exciting opportunity to launch your publishing career by supporting two key teams within Faber.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will handle licensing and supply of production materials and assist with drafting and negotiating straightforward contractual agreements and addenda under supervision, including sub-rights contracts, publisher release forms and, where necessary, head contracts.

You will process contracts for signature via DocuSign, upload newly signed head and sub-rights agreements into Biblio, and ensure all contractual records are accurately maintained. The position also involves managing renewals and reversions for subsidiary rights and head contracts, as well as organising book fairs by coordinating appointment schedules and preparing sales materials such as biannual rights guides.

You will handle a range of administrative tasks across the rights and contracts departments, including tracking unsigned contracts, updating records, managing departmental mailings, and coordinating book orders, author copies and submissions. Building strong working relationships with royalties, editorial, authors, agents and licensees will be essential as you respond to queries and facilitate smooth communication. You will also provide general administrative support to the contracts and rights teams and contribute flexibly to other tasks as required.

Knowledge, skills & experience

The ideal candidate will be organised, have an eye for detail, an excellent communicator, and be great with people. You’ll enjoy and have the ability to build positive working relationships both internally and externally. You will demonstrate good time management, be able to handle multiple tasks at once, and enjoy solving problems. You’ll thrive working in and supporting a team, while also having the confidence to work independently. Keeping things running smoothly with straightforward, practical judgement is a must. Self-motivation is essential, and an interest in copyright and international publishing would be an advantage.

If the above sounds like you, then we would love to receive your application.
