
Senior editor, Adult Trade (maternity cover)

Contract: The role is a full-time temporary (12-month fixed term) position
Bloomsbury has an exciting opportunity for someone to join as senior editor for a fixed-term maternity leave contract in the Bloomsbury Trade division.
The Senior Editor will offer high level support to the Head of Bloomsbury Trade across her bestselling and prize-winning fiction and non-fiction list, including Rutger Bregman, Ann Patchett, Willie Dalrymple, Isabel Allende, Louise Kennedy, Gillian Anderson. The candidate will stand in for Head of Bloomsbury Trade when appropriate in internal publishing meetings and will help liaise with authors and agents. The Senior Editor will have an Editorial Assistant for support.

Responsibilities
- Support across a list of approx. 17 fiction and non-fiction titles per year: to include support on positioning and cover briefing, launching at Start-Up when appropriate, as directed by the Head of Bloomsbury Trade
- As above for the publisher’s paperback list – to include jacket and manuscript briefs, copy, text corrections, producing additional content and engaging freelancers
- Ensure that titles meet their critical path dates
- Day-to-day running of the lists, acting as a primary point of contact for colleagues across production, sales, marketing, publicity, rights and design
- Will understand implicitly when areas of publishing need to be escalated to Head of Bloomsbury Trade
- Maintain excellent relationships with authors, agents, co-publishers and other publishing stakeholders, providing the highest standards of author care
- Attend and represent the Publisher at internal and external meetings/events
- Create impactful and market-appropriate copy for covers, AIs, catalogues, rights guides etc.
- To read and report on submissions as required
- Manage an Editorial Assistant alongside another Editorial Director
- Clearly communicate ongoing duties and delegate ad-hoc support
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Demonstrate knowledge of the market and bring new ideas for growth
- Extensive editorial experience working in non-fiction, across a range of subjects
Additional information
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday
