Social media manager, 4Studio (12 month FTC)
Reports to: Senior Content Strategist
Location: Leeds
Duration: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Salary: Starting at £43,094.00 dependant on experience
If you know how to spark conversations, jump on trends, and captivate audiences, we want you!
4Studio is the driving force behind C4’s digital acceleration strategy, with the objective to create, adapt and distribute brilliant content across our social and digital channels, building engaged audiences that deliver digital views at scale. Channel 4 is a world class entertainment brand. The Social team within 4Studio is responsible for further building our world class social media presence.
We are looking for an industry-leading Social Media Manager to help us achieve our objective; this person will be responsible for publishing our content to different accounts within our portfolio, across different platforms, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. They will also be responsible for building and engaging loyal communities and interacting with our audiences in line with legal and compliance guidelines and brand Tone of Voice.
A passion for/knowledge of digital food & drink and/or comedy content is key, with demonstrable expertise in optimising and publishing engaging social content within a fast-paced environment.
The Social Media Manager requires a wealth of versatile experience and will be responsible for building publishing calendars, approving and scripting social copy and owning the Tone of Voice for the accounts, as well as ensuring all content is optimised fully to reach the right audiences, with the right thumbnails, metadata and keywords to ensure distribution is maximised. In addition, they will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to report on performance.
They will work closely with their teams to ensure we’re publishing the right kind of content that will captivate and engage audiences across the different platforms. You’ll know exactly how to talk to an audience, encouraging engagement and jumping on trends and zeitgeisty topics in order to ensure Channel 4 is at the cutting edge of all things social. You’ll be able to analyse audience response and performance to help inform publishing strategies, ensuring our content reaches the widest possible audience.
Key responsibilities
Content publishing & channel management
- You will have an ability to contribute to ideas and translate these in a fast-turnaround food content production environment.
- You will be responsible for publishing and scheduling all content across a variety of different social accounts across platforms. This will include optimised metadata, copy, thumbnails and channel management across accounts, as well as occasionally producing or designing assets in a speedy, reactive way that will land well with the desired audience.
- You will be working with a small production team to publish short-form, original food content for social media channels.
- You will be working to a weekly production and publishing schedule.
- You will need to be able to understand the different brand purposes, tones and behaviours across the Channel 4 portfolio, including the different shows.
- Working with the Strategist you will determine the most effective interaction with 3rd Party accounts and Talent accounts.
- You will be familiar with all the platform CMS, and skilled with using spreadsheets and/or other tools to help track and monitor scheduling activity
- You’ll be adept at analysing data to understand audience behaviours, and will have a passion for social media trends. You’re able to use content discovery and social media monitoring tools to assess the landscape, and to adapt and react in real time to keep our accounts timely and engaging.
- You will understand how the different platform algorithms can impact performance, and know how to optimise content in the best possible way to extend reach and engagement
- You’ll be ensuring content is suitable for the platforms we publish on, and will make it your business to know community guidelines and advertiser-friendly content guidelines inside out. You’ll also need to work with our Legal and Compliance teams to understand what is and isn’t suitable for our audiences.
- You will be passionate about using the right thumbnail, the right copy, the right descriptions and metadata, and know when to step in to amend based on performance.
- Social media exists to create conversation, so there will be the occasional evening or weekend work to support community growth on the channels, which includes live tweeting and being involved in big ticket events
- Many of our programmes have groups of fans online, and you will be responsible in finding ways to engage and enthuse these fans to extend the reach of our content.
People skills
- You will be given a large degree of autonomy, but you need to be able to judge when something needs escalating
- You must be able to work within a team and can bend and flex to support colleagues in order to achieve shared goals
- You will need to be able to use data to feedback insights into key stakeholders, and then suggest and articulate re-prioritisation of content outputs accordingly
- You might be responsible for line managing an assistant and overseeing their workload as well as your own
- You will be required to manage the sometimes-competing demands of key stakeholders. Cool under pressure and excellent powers of persuasion are required.
- You will need to be able to explain both problems and solutions in layman’s terms. This will be important when “managing upwards”
- You will need to have a good working relationship with Legal & Compliance. They are there to make sure we stay the right side of the line rather than to clip your wings. Channel 4 was Born Risky
Measurement & reporting
- You will be required to work with Analysts to produce regular updates that will be shared with senior management and beyond.
- This requires the ability to use social media measurement tools and present the information in a clear, concise way.
- Whether something has gone well or badly, you will be required to learn lessons from what has been done and be able to apply those lessons, so we keep on improving.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential
- Demonstrate significant experience of using scheduling tools, creating social publishing calendars and engaging with communities across multiple platforms
- Demonstrate significant experience in optimisation of social content to reach bigger and/or focused audiences. You’ll know why thumbnails, titles, metadata and tagging are as important as what’s in the content itself.
- Demonstrate experience using social measurement and reporting tools, and how you’ve learnt from them to inform future social community management.
- You will know the platforms, and their functions, inside out. You’ll also be well versed in all their Community Guidelines and know what will and won’t inhibit organic distribution
- Asset creation and/or design work would be an advantage
Conditions
- Most scheduling will be done in advance, but there may be occasions that require working at evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You will get time off in lieu for doing so.
