Location: The role will be based at our London or Sheffield office, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.

What you'll be doing

As studio manager, you will have a comprehensive overview of the production and delivery of all Hodder & Stoughton’s cover design work. You will oversee the workflow of our designers and freelancers to ensure covers are delivered on time and within budget. Acting as the go-to for queries, you will help to balance workloads, identify priorities and improve processes. You will also be responsible for maintaining a high level of accuracy across design data, including schedules on Biblio, budgets and invoices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overview and management of workflow across the design team
  • Setting priorities and driving adherence to critical path
  • Managing freelance resource and contracts
  • Creating agendas and minutes for the weekly meetings
  • Dealing with reprint and third-party rights requests
  • Ensuring invoices are paid on time
  • Developing and creating processes to improve efficiencies in the team


Who we are looking for

You will have experience working in a fast-paced environment and you are very comfortable multi-tasking with strong organisational and project management skills. You’ll be confident in developing processes to create an efficient, effective workflow for everyone.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of book design workflow and will need to communicate well and build positive working relationships at all levels. It’s important that you are able to take initiative and problem-solve. The ideal candidate will be a confident user of Excel and the Microsoft 365 suite, with some basic knowledge of design software.
