Help administer, coordinate, and promote creative writing courses that support aspiring writers, while providing exceptional support to students, tutors, and the wider creative community.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a smart newcomer to join our small team, which provides innovative and highly successful creative writing courses to aspiring writers, online and in London.

This role centres on the smooth running of our online and London-based courses, as well as our Breakthrough Writers’ Programme for under-represented writers. Your focus will be on course administration and student care, supporting the work of our courses management team. You will also help support the marketing and digital team, assisting with the creation of social media and website content. You’ll answer queries from our growing community of aspiring writers and students through our student queries inbox, social media channels and phones calls.

You’ll be based at our central London offices, but please note we are currently using a hybrid working pattern which involves a minimum of three days a week in the office with some working from home, subject to ongoing review.

Responsibilities

Courses management duties

  • Student care and communication: monitoring the busy main student inbox and phoneline, providing support to existing students and dealing with customer enquiries.
  • Course administration: providing administrative support to the courses team in the delivery of all our online and London-based courses and our reports and mentoring services, developing a strong sense of student satisfaction and reporting any potential issues to the relevant course manager. Including but not limited to: invoicing and chasing payments, distributing key course information to tutors and students, diarising speaker sessions, hosting guest speaker sessions, booking rooms and setting up classrooms for London-based courses, keeping the team diary updated, arranging and supporting meetings and events, liaising with Curtis Brown and C&W’s book department.
  • Online onboarding: Responsible for the onboarding of students to our shorter online courses, utilising pre-designed email flows in our Klaviyo system. Supporting tutors and students with sharing resources and work, and offering technical support to students.
  • Reports and tutorials: key responsibility as point person for end-of-course reports, including collating students’ work, liaising with editors and monitoring the quality of editor feedback.
  • Online learning platform: uploading and checking course content on our dedicated learning platform and student forum, including formatting and updating course materials, supporting tutors and students with sharing resources and work, and offering technical support to students.
  • Course selection: taking part in reading and discussing course applications with the CBC team to support the process of student selection, as well as providing administrative support for the selection process.

Marketing & sales duties

  • Customer satisfaction: collecting customer feedback via surveys and email, analysing the results to help the CBC team innovate with improvements, add-ons and new services – growing customer loyalty, repeat purchases, and sales through personal recommendations.
  • Updating website material: assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the CBC Ecommerce website. Including updating courses and product descriptions and promotional copy, ensuring good SEO and links. Blogging on matters of interest to students and new writers.
  • Social media: help in monitoring CBC’s social media channels (currently X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Threads and TikTok), seeking to build on engagement and further develop our social media presence.

Other duties

  • Each member of staff must be adaptable and must pitch in where necessary to ensure our courses are promoted and delivered effectively, including covering the essential work of other staff during absence, and any other duties as the managing director may reasonably determine from time to time.
