Lead technical operations for live events while supervising technicians and maintaining backstage safety standards.

We’re the largest arts centre in the UK and one of the nation's top five visitor attractions. We seek out the world’s most exciting artists, from household names to fresh new talent, and give them space to showcase their best work. We are currently looking for a Technical Supervisor to join our Production team on a permanent, full time contract. The Southbank Centre Production team looks after all the technical needs for all the events that are on our site. Under the overall direction of the Production Manager, the Technical supervisor will lead the production team in implementing the promoter’s internal or external technical requirements to ensure a smooth and professional presentation of the technical requirements of each event, wherever SC activities are taking place.

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure that equipment and facilities used are in safe working order and are fit for purpose and to promptly report any faults to Production Management.
  • To ensure that SC’s Health & Safety policies and safe working practices are in use at all time.
  • To line manage Technicians.
  • To uphold and enforce SC policies at all times.
  • To keep up to date with developments in technology and its potential effects and services.


Skills & Experience

  • Has a thorough working knowledge and experience of the safety requirements, operation and handling of technical equipment for the disciplines covered by the Production Department (including but not limited to, stage automation, lighting, sound, rigging and AV) plus power distribution, musical instruments and back-line equipment
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Safe Working Practices and relevant Health & Safety regulation, including the ability to carry out risk assessments.
  • Has the ability to understand and interpret plans and scale drawings.
  • Experience of supervising and directing the work of a team.
  • Has professional and effective communication skills and a collaborative working style.


The annual salary stated is based on the Full-Time Equivalent (40 hours per week). If the job is part-time, the weekly hours will be stated within the advert.
