Join us in shaping transformative performance experiences on two of London’s most distinctive stages: the Barbican Theatre and The Pit, where creativity and technical excellence meet.

At the heart of the Barbican’s creative programme, the Theatre Department celebrates bold, genre-defying performance. We present an ambitious year-round programme that moves fluidly across theatre, dance, and performance art—featuring international auteurs, leading companies, and emerging voices who are redefining what theatre can be.

We are now seeking a skilled and imaginative professional to join our busy Theatre team, focusing on the video and sound operations. This role is central to the technical delivery of our performances and productions, and includes supervising a team of Technicians to ensure that every event runs smoothly and to the highest artistic and technical standards.

What you'll bring

  • You’ll bring hands-on experience in theatre—or a deep knowledge of the industry—paired with current expertise in sound and video technology.
  • As a confident and collaborative team leader, you’ll be comfortable planning ahead, motivating others, and staying calm and responsive in a fast-paced, artistically rich environment.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety legislation and industry practice is key, as is a good level of physical fitness and the ability to communicate effectively with fellow team members, visiting artists, and the public.

As part of our commitment to increasing the diversity of staff within the Barbican we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from groups that are currently underrepresented, including people from the Global Majority* and D/deaf and disabled people. We want to better reflect and understand the communities we exist to serve. We are members of the Disability Confident Scheme and guarantee to interview all disabled candidates who would like to be considered under this scheme and who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role. If you are a disabled person and need adjustments to the application process please contact us.

*Global Majority is a collective term that refers to people who are Black, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, and or, have been racialised as 'ethnic minorities'

Please state in your application that you found this role through Creative Access.
