Join Yorkshire Dance as a trustee and help build a more equitable future for dance.

This is a voluntary position as trustees are not paid for their time but will be reimbursed for expenses incurred to carry out board duties. As a trustee, you will be placed on the public register with Companies House as a director of the company and listed as a trustee of the charity with the Charities Commission. Board meetings are quarterly, virtual or hybrid in Leeds City Centre, with an in-person day session twice a year. Trustees are encouraged to join subgroups which meet every quarter. Trustees are appointed for an initial term of 3 years. The maximum term for trustees is 6 years. More details of responsibilities of Trustees can be found on the Charity Commission website.

The Board's role is to ensure that Yorkshire Dance works towards its charitable aims. It is made up of a passionate group of people who care about what we do, our mission and values.Their shared experience brings knowledge, expertise and dynamism to managing the charity. The board work closely with Hannah (Creative Director) and Jo (Executive Director) to ensure that Yorkshire Dance delivers its mission and vision. They uphold the Company’s values and standards and ensure that its obligations to its stakeholders and others are understood and met.

Trustee Responsibilities

  • Uphold the Company’s values and standards, ensuring that its obligations to its stakeholders and others are understood and met.
  • Attend quarterly board meetings (virtual or hybrid) in Leeds city centre.

As well as needing experienced Trustees, we are also relaunching our two-year Onboarding Scheme. This is to give 2 people with no board experience, an opportunity to experience being a trustee. While the post-holders don’t have voting rights, they will get to join governance conversations, sit on subcommittees and attend meetings for 2 years to learn more about the role of trustees within an arts charity.

We welcome applications from people who are currently under-represented at board level in the arts organisations of Leeds.

Please include in your application that you found this role through Creative Access.
