Chichester Festival Theatre is offering an exciting training opportuninty for someone with lived experience of displacement to support their theatre workshops and events.

Are you looking for an exciting first step into theatre and the arts, or do you have some experience and want to take it further? This opportunity is being offered to displaced people such as refugees and asylum seekers with a lived experience of displacement, who want to learn more about working in the arts.

Who we are and what we do

Chichester Festival Theatre (CFT) is a regional producing house theatre. Each year we produce a number of shows in our two theatres on site, these are part of our festival season, alongside this we have a learning education and participation team (LEAP). We are a team of 11 people who love working with everyone in our community – children, young people, adults – no matter what their background or ability. We run theatre workshops, creative projects, and events across West Sussex. We want everyone to enjoy the arts and be a part of it – whether they are a young person who finds school challenging, a caregiver, or someone who is new to the UK.

This learning opportunity is in partnership with Good Chance on their Stage Door programme. Stage Door is an opportunity created by Good Chance for people from refugee backgrounds at the early stages of their career to undertake paid, part-time, flexible traineeships across theatre and film organisations, nurturing the next generation of creative professionals from across the world.

What you will do

As a Good Chance youth & outreach trainee, you will:

  • Support the team to run workshops and community projects
  • Help children and young people learn new skills and grow in confidence through theatre and art
  • Support the delivery of other events, for example adult community groups

During your training, you will learn about arts administration, workshop delivery, and project management. You will have lots of support from the team and from Good Chance.

There will be opportunities to

  • Develop your knowledge through training and exploration of different art forms
  • See how a theatre company is run and learn skills you can use in future jobs
  • Work alongside experienced theatre practitioners and learn from their expertise
  • Lead small group sessions and develop your own leadership skills

Who we are looking for

This opportunity is being offered to displaced people such as refugees and asylum seekers with a lived experience of displacement. We welcome applicants who are enthusiastic about the arts – no prior professional experience is necessary. We are looking for an individual who:

  • Believes that everyone should have the chance to enjoy theatre and the arts
  • Willing to learn, grow, and try new things
  • Is a team player – helpful, flexible, and able to support their colleagues
