Questions & casting researcher (2), University Challenge - freelance contract
University Challenge is looking to recruit 2x questions & casting researchers to start circa beginning August until the end of April 2023.
Lifted Entertainment is home to some of the biggest TV shows in the world, Including Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, The Voice UK & Love Island.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the questions and casting teams to deliver brilliant questions and contestants relevant to University Challenge
- Writing an agreed volume of original question material to a high standard of clarity, originality and accuracy, with particular (but not exclusive) focus on producing picture and music rounds. This will include the production of effective ‘mock-up’ question graphics and rough cuts of music clips
- Incorporating feedback and edit requests from the questions producer/series producer/question verifiers promptly and thoroughly
- Keeping accurate records of third-party material used in own questions, i.e. image and music files, including source and attribution
- Identifying and noting third-party copyrights entailed in own questions; raising these issues promptly and clearly with the series producer and production manager; and taking action as guided to secure necessary permissions
- Supporting the casting assistant producer (AP) in pre-studio preparations with successful teams and contestants, including establishing lines of communication, disseminating documentation and gathering necessary information, and dealing with contestant queries and concerns, referring issues up to the casting AP and SP where necessary
- During studio recordings, providing support to contestants (including pre-match briefings on rules, gameplay, and studio protocols)
To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:
Minimum role criteria:
- Good general knowledge, and demonstrable enthusiasm for learning new things – with, in particular, an interest in a wide range of music genres, including classical
- Excellent proven research and organisational skills
- Some understanding of the principles of copyright, and an awareness of the legal issues involved in reproducing audiovisual material demonstrated by previous experience
- Ability to deal sensitively and professionally with a wide range of external contributors and talent
- Excellent communication skills; particularly writing skills with the ability to create suitable questions relevant to the series
- Ability to write accurate and original questions prolifically and to deadlines
- An exceptional team player with the ability to develop good working relationships evidenced by previous employment
- Strong understanding of what makes an engaging University Challenge team, and demonstrable ability to conduct auditions to assess this
