Editorial assistant, Macmillan Collector’s Library (MCL) Library/Picador

Love reading? This is an exciting opportunity for a resourceful and conscientious individual who loves language and ideas to join our friendly, inclusive and creative team.
In this role you will work on the Macmillan Collector’s Library (MCL), which publishes our classic books from around the world spanning fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, poetry, drama and anthologies in beautifully produced, pocket size, hardcover editions. The job also involves supporting the Picador editorial team, who publish a broad range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
Reporting to the MCL Publisher, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the MCL list and administrative and editorial processes that support our publishing, from a book’s acquisition to publication and beyond.
We are looking for someone who is calm, resourceful and organised, and can multitask and meet deadlines. This is an entry-level role, but some experience of working in an office and/or the book trade would be an advantage. When applying please tell us why you want to work in book publishing.
Key tasks of the role include:
- Liaise with agents / authors / contributors and colleauge queries
- Full involvement in the editorial process in conjunction with managers
- Write and circulate editorial meeting minutes for MCL and occasional other meetings
- Create and maintain Biblio records for MCL and relevant Picador books including Title Information Sheet maintenance, metadata and costings
- Contribute to MCL blog posts
- Order copies of MCL's published titles and relevant Picador books for contributors and agents
- Contribute to researching potential titles to publish for MCL

- Excellent administration skills with the ability to organise, prioritise and manage workflow
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills to keep stakeholders informed and on-side
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Likes working as part of a team and is prepared to contribute ideas
Desirable
- Familiarity with the Google Workplace suite, MS Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, Biblio an advantage, but full training will be provided regardless
- Some knowledge of classic literature, poetry, drama and non-fiction
- Some knowledge of the contemporary book market and/or a love of reading very desirable
