Are you passionate about podcasts and radio? Help bring multi-genre stories to life for diverse audiences across the UK.

BBC Audio North is the single biggest supplier of BBC radio programmes and podcasts made outside of London. We love audio and make lots of it – a rich mix of content spanning multiple genres including consumer, investigations, documentaries, religion and arts for national BBC Radio, the World Service and Sounds. Teams in BBC Audio North make a wide range of speech and music programmes and podcasts for Radio 2, 3, 4, World Service and BBC Sounds. We span several genres including consumer, religion, arts and classical music.

We are looking for an assistant producer to work on our consumer output. We want to build on our recent successes in tapping into the younger and more diverse audience that BBC speech programmes need to reach - hopefully that is where you come in. Let us know what you have been up to and why you should be the next assistant producer in our team.

Responsibilities

  • Assistant producers may be asked to work across any of the output across Audio North
  • You’ll work in a team with producers, reporting to an editor
  • Effective team-working and positivity is a must - you’ll be part of a team which is always exploring how to better exploit content across platforms (particularly BBC Sounds and social media channels) to find new audiences
  • You’ll be a self-starter with the ability to unearth compelling stories which reflect listeners’ lives and curious about what’s going on behind the headlines and how to bring that to life for audiences
  • You’ll be excited about the possibilities of audio in making stories land with impact

Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Experience in creating first class content, with the ability to unearth compelling stories which reflect listeners’ lives
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a broadcast or content production environment
  • Familiarity with research techniques and sources for the verification of the accuracy of material
  • Experience of writing clear and concise material which may be used for briefs, scripts, or digital platforms
  • Ability to use IT proficiently, including a range of software packages

As part of your application, we will be asking you to tell us about your digital and social media skills and how you’d use them to create a splash around your stories.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to join us. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity. We welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief.
