Have you ever wondered if a career in radio and music at the BBC could be for you, or never imagined it might be? BBC Open Music is here to help you explore that possibility.
BBC Open Music is a training scheme which brings together creatives, musicians and aspiring radio or technical producers from all genres, backgrounds and regions across the UK. It’s designed to help you build new skills, spark fresh ideas, and explore collaboration within orchestral and classical music broadcasting at the BBC – with an aim to improve the diversity of talent entering the industry.
Ahead of BBC Open Music opening for applications in January 2026 we’ll be running a series of Insight Days across the UK and we’d love to see you there.
What will the Insight Days involve?
The Insight Days will offer a chance to:
- Visit a BBC base and find out more about careers in radio and music
- Meet and network with inspirational industry professionals
- Find out about the BBC Open Music scheme and other early careers opportunities, plus get tips for applying
- In some locations, develop hands-on skills by producing a mock radio programme
Who are the Insight Days for?
You don’t need formal qualifications or any experience working in radio or classical music to attend – you just need to be over 18 and have a curiosity for exploring what a career in this area might look like.
The Insights Days could be a great fit if you:
- Want to build your knowledge, skills and contacts within the BBC and the wider radio and music industry
- Are passionate about sharing music with others
- Have a curiosity for orchestral and/or classical music
- Would like to explore ways you could develop your career as a creative, radio producer or technical producer

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to join us. We welcome and encourage attendees who are under-represented in the radio and music sector.
