Help shape the sound and vision of BBC Asian Network, commissioning bold content that brings music and culture to life across radio, digital, and social platforms.
This role reports to the head of Asian Network and works closely with a wide range of internal/external stakeholders. You will collaborate with production companies creating live radio, manage the Asian Network music team, and work alongside the assistant commissioner, while connecting with wider BBC departments to deliver current and future ambitions for the brand. You will also work closely with the head of station to deliver and commission a broad range of diverse and innovative content from suppliers, balancing editorial excellence with compliance and budgetary requirements.

Responsibilities
- Proven experience in commissioning content with strong editorial judgment
- Solid production knowledge with a track record of successful programme-making across platforms
- Passion for multi-platform content and its role in audience engagement, combined with an audience-first approach to identifying trends, topical issues, and gaps in output
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders, alongside confident leadership, planning, and organisational abilities to meet deadlines and financial commitments
- Strong awareness of broadcasting trends and issues, strategic thinking around content commissioning, and a commitment to diversity in content aligned with BBC diversity strategies
Knowledge, skills & experience
- An understanding of BBC editorial policy, fair trading, and the financial implications of decisions
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of Asian Network’s audience, culture, heritage, and music, with awareness of associated complexities
- Maintain strong knowledge of the wider audio and music industry, including specialist expertise and relationships in Asian music and media
- Proven experience in talent management, strategic planning, and delivering audience growth
- Experience of deputising for senior leadership when required and representing the department in senior pan-business meetings
