Take the lead on production at BBC Audio Scotland & NI and shape compelling content across radio, podcasts, music and arts programming, while working with some of the biggest names in the industry.

BBC Audio Scotland and Northern Ireland is seeking a dynamic and creative content editor to lead production across a growing slate of speech and music programming. Based in Glasgow, with regular travel to Edinburgh and Belfast, this leadership role will oversee editorial direction, team management, and content delivery across a diverse portfolio of programmes and podcasts including Front Row, Loose Ends, Pick of the Week, Jazz Record Requests, Radio 1 Dance with Connor Coates, Sound of Cinema, The Artificial Human, Book of the Week, Radio 3 In Concert and Classical Live. The successful candidate is likely to have a passion for the arts in their broadest sense.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and line manage a team of programme makers across multiple productions
  • Provide editorial leadership for a wide range of content including speech, music, arts, and narrative podcasts
  • Oversee delivery of content on time and within budget, ensuring high editorial standards
  • Drive innovation and pitch new formats to commissioners across BBC networks
  • Champion diversity in staffing and content creation
  • Support staff development and foster a positive, inclusive team culture
  • Ensure compliance with BBC Editorial and Health & Safety policies, including sustainability targets


Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in speech and/or music content production with a strong editorial vision
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate creative teams, offering constructive feedback
  • Confident decision-maker with deep understanding of editorial compliance
  • Skilled in working with on-air talent and performers
  • Excellent communicator with experience building relationships across internal and external stakeholders

Desirable

  • Experience pitching and developing content
  • Familiarity with multi-part narrative podcast production
  • Knowledge of BBC corporate objectives and ability to align team goals accordingly
  • Experience managing location productions and outside broadcasts (OB's)
  • Understanding of sustainability practices in media production
