Account manager, Business Development
Closing date: 10th October 2023
Think you can convince a Marketing Director to go for a coffee with one of the world’s most famous marketing agencies? If so, we want to hear from you.
Ingenuity is the UK’s biggest, and best, new business consultancy. We create new relationships between agencies, brands, and tech companies.
Our clients are a cross-section of the cleverest and most creative advertising, digital, social, influencer, PR and content agencies.
These agencies produce marketing campaigns for the world’s biggest brands and are all hungry to grow further.
They employ us to help them expand their peer networks, make new connections with brands, and in the long term, win new clients.
About the role
This isn't your standard business development role, or sales as you know it.
We don't use spray and pray tactics, instead, you'll be tasked with using research, insights, content, thought leadership, webinars and events to get your agency clients in front of senior marketing stakeholders.
It's a varied role: one day you could be exploring how tourism brands can best use influencers to sustainable travel. The next, you could be diving into what neo-banks mean for millennials. Then, perhaps onto looking at how gaming has gone mainstream, and what this means for traditional PR.
You’ll represent four different marketing agencies, on tasks such as:
- Targeting
- Which social media director would find this TikTok commerce trends research interesting? Which PR leaders should join a roundtable on female (mis)representation in the media? It's your job to find out.
- Insights
- What companies have just had investment and are looking to scale? Which marketing director has just changed roles and could be looking for fresh thinking? Whose share price is plummeting and in need of a turnaround plan? You're responsible for spotting these opportunities and gathering market intel so you can reach out on behalf of your clients.
- Outreach
- Can you write a snappy, succinct, and punchy email, that can get a busy marketing leader's attention? What's the best way to summarise a webinar agenda, to attract as many attendees as possible? Under guidance from the senior team, you'll help craft email and LinkedIn copy.
- Reporting
- Which meetings are in the diary? Which tactics are working best? Which sectors seem most interested? How strong is your pipeline? Your role calls for weekly updates to your clients via reporting documents and status calls, as well as a monthly face to face catch up to answer these questions.
All of these tasks pave the way to our key goal here at Ingenuity - generating 1-2 introductory meetings with target brands for each client, every month.
You'll be supported day-by-day by a team of highly experienced senior staff, who will set the strategy and direction and will be on hand to offer advice and guidance.
Beyond that, there's a rich, in-depth rapid development training programme which will arm you with all the skills you need to succeed. You'll learn a lot about the marketing and business landscape, client and account management and the art of consultative, content-led business development.
You'll be immersed in the creative and commercial world and will get direct exposure to some of the brightest minds in business.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
We know every job ad expects you to be proactive, articulate, and inquisitive, but we really mean it. These are core skills - a must, not a nice to have.
Fundamentally, the role boils down to brilliant communication: with colleagues, with senior level clients, and high-profile prospects. Having outstanding verbal and written skills is imperative.
Beyond that, the role can be divided into two, equally important, functions:
Account management
- Organisation - you’ll be juggling multiple tasks, client schedules and strategies every day and every week. We’re looking for people who thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and have the drive to get on with the job in hand (with direction but without micromanagement).
- Attention to detail - you'll be representing your clients directly and it's vital we take them to market in a diligent and professional manner. There's no room for typos or spelling mistakes, diary clashes or communication breakdowns.
Business development
- Curiosity - you'll need to stay on top of what's happening in your core target sectors and priority brand prospects.
- Creative thinkers - you'll need to spot insights, understand what this means in the context of your client portfolio and how you can use this to inform an approach.
- Creative writers - you'll be required to come up with catchy email subject titles and witty copy. Something that will stand out, engage and inspire a response.
