Editorial Intern – Embla Books, Nine Eight Publishing

Embla Books is a digital-first publisher of standout commercial adult fiction. The imprint is named after the first woman in Norse mythology, who was carved from a tree trunk by the gods – an image of the kind of crafting that writers do, and a symbol of how stories shape our lives. Passionate about storytelling, the team at Embla publish books that will make you laugh, love, look over your shoulder and lose sleep.
Nine Eight Books is a dedicated music imprint and home for broad, bold, and entertaining musical perspectives. Working with some of the world's greatest artists, musicians and writers and publishing everything from autobiographies to oral histories, music is always at the heart of their narrative.
This is a great opportunity to work closely with Bonnier UK's editorial team and support its newest imprints. You will be working across a wide range of genres, both fiction and non-fiction, and learning about all the steps in the book publishing process. The ideal candidate will be energetic and eager to learn, have a passion for stories and storytelling, and be able to demonstrate great organisational as well as impeccable communication skills.
What you'll learn
- General administrative support for the editorial teams, including processing invoices and managing databases
- Reviewing material and contributing to editorial meetings and discussions
- Assisting with cover design and desk editing, including liaising with freelancers over cover design, copyediting and proofreading and briefing typesetting
- Assisting the team with title production tasks, picture research and clearance
- Monitoring and responding to the general queries email
Knowledge, skills, experience
- A good communicator with excellent written skills
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise a busy workload with multiple projects
- Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment
- Sound knowledge of computer packages
- Great attention to detail
- An interest in books and commercial publishing, and some experience in a team administrative support role, would be an advantage
