
Estates capital works project manager
Salary: £49,951 per annum

The National Gallery is an art museum in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, in Central London, England. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900.
The National Gallery has an exciting opportunity for an Estates Capital Works Project Manager to join the Building and Facilities Department working in the Building Fabric Projects and Maintenance team reporting to the Building Manager. We are seeking a skilled and organised individual who will lead the delivery of day to day maintenance and refurbishment projects that support the repair and presentation of the Gallery’s Grade I listed estate.
What you'll be doing
- This role involves coordinating works across departments, managing project budgets and timelines, and ensuring minimal disruption to day-to-day operations.
- You’ll liaise with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders, and maintain accurate records, condition reports, and specialist documentation to uphold the safety and integrity of the building, staff, visitors, and the collection.
What we are looking for
Technical Knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of Fabric Building systems plus CAFM and asset management systems.
- Knowledge of Current CDM and BSA regulations.
Project Management Skills
- Strong project planning and management skills including application of departmental resources, consultants, staff, and budgets.
- Preparing and maintaining procedural notes and reports to guide project delivery.
Problem Solving
- Effective problem solver with proven ability in taking a systematic approach to address safety, efficiency, and cost -effectiveness while managing uneven workloads.
- Ability to balance resources to meet competing demands, especially in constrained environments.
Communication Skills
- Excellent communication and liaison abilities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills including the production of clear reports, specifications, procedural notes, and instructions will also be a major part of the work.
Decision Making
- Ability to prioritise and manage projects time effectively, provide advice and recommendations, and escalate problems outside of your area of expertise.

Supervisory/Managerial responsibility The work involves discussion and negotiation with all levels of Gallery staff, consultants, and contractors.
- Briefing consultants on work requirements.
- Supervision and direction of contractors and suppliers.
- Budget management to a delegated authority
Essential minimum qualification on entry
- HNC or equivalent in Construction Management or Fabric building systems.
- Project management experience such as APM (Association of Project Management) or equivalent.
- CAD operator such as City of Guilds CAD qualifications levels 1 to 3
