
Marketing executive (ecommerce)
Reports to: Senior Sales and Marketing Manager (Ecommerce and Operations)

This broad, hands-on marketing role supports ecommerce performance and growth alongside wider brand marketing across The Phoenix. The role will help drive the commercial performance of The Phoenix Shop, Digital Workshops and other audience-facing initiatives, while contributing to subscription, Comic Club, publishing, event and brand activity. Working closely with the Senior Sales and Marketing Manager, the Marketing Executive will help deliver high-quality campaigns, improve customer experience, grow audience engagement and support sales through effective marketing execution and insight.
Key Responsibilities
Ecommerce, campaigns & performance
- Support and deliver marketing campaigns for The Phoenix Shop, Digital Workshops and related products and services, alongside wider subscription, Comic Club, publishing, brand and event activity.
- Support customer acquisition, engagement and retention across email/CRM, social media, SEO, paid digital, affiliate/partnership, in-comic, print and other relevant channels.
- Coordinate campaign timelines and delivery, ensuring copy, creative assets, posts, emails, testing, approvals and other activity are completed to the required standard and lead time.
- Monitor marketing and ecommerce performance and customer behaviour; support reporting and analysis, and use insight to inform decisions and identify opportunities for growth.
- Take ownership of smaller campaigns and projects, test new marketing opportunities and provide practical administrative and operational support across marketing activity.
Creative Content & Design Liaison
- Write, review and adapt marketing copy for different channels and audiences, maintaining the appropriate tone of voice and brand consistency.
- Select existing assets and brief new creative for ecommerce, email, social, websites, events and other promotional activity; liaise with designers, creators, contributors and external partners as required.
- Build marketing emails from templates; plan, prepare and edit social content; support product imagery/photography and simple video content; and make basic adaptations to existing assets, including resizing, formatting and exporting.
- Carry out quality checks across marketing content and materials, including proofing, testing, best-practice review and stakeholder sign-off.
Website, customer experience optimisation & events
- Support the ongoing optimisation of The Phoenix Shop and associated digital platforms, including occasional content and webpage updates using Shopify, WordPress and related tools.
- Help improve customer journeys, website usability and functionality, landing pages and Eventbrite pages to support engagement and sales performance.
- Support the promotion and communications for digital workshops, offline events and audience/community initiatives before, during and after activity.
Collaboration, research & growth
- Work collaboratively with Editorial, Design, Marketing and Operations, and with authors, creators, publishers and external partners, to maximise coordinated and cross-promotional opportunities.
- Conduct competitor, audience and market research; contribute ideas for new products, services and marketing initiatives; and provide insight that supports customer engagement and business growth.
- Develop a broad understanding of The Phoenix’s marketing, audience and commercial activity to provide effective support and cover across key marketing functions when required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous experience at Marketing Executive level, or Marketing Assistant experience with readiness to step up, and/or a relevant marketing qualification.
- Strong written communication and marketing copywriting skills, with a good visual eye and understanding of how creative choices influence performance and customer experience.
- Good understanding of common marketing channels, terminology and metrics, with a commercially minded approach and understanding of how marketing supports sales and wider business objectives.
- Comfortable using and learning digital platforms to create and edit email, social and website content.
- Proactive, organised and comfortable taking ownership of tasks and projects, with strong curiosity for marketing and a desire to develop within the profession.
Desirable
- 1-2 years’ experience in a similar marketing or digital role, ideally within ecommerce, retail, physical products or a DTC brand.
- Confidence using spreadsheets for basic reporting and analysis, and familiarity with email/CRM, analytics, ecommerce and CMS platforms.
- Experience using simple creative tools to resize, format and export assets, work within templates and create/edit basic social video content.
- An interest in comics and children’s publishing.
