NT Connections Festival Producer Stage Door Placement

Help produce a week of youth theatre at Bristol Old Vic as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival.

Through theatre and art, Good Chance creates new kinds of communities, collaborating with artists from across the world and connecting people, stories and cultures.Bristol Old Vic are partnering with Good Chance Theatre to offer an exciting new opportunity for a producer with experience of forced displacement to join our team for five months.

About the engagement department and Stage Door

Bristol Old Vic's Engagement department encompasses Young Company; one of the largest regional youth theatres in the UK, work with community groups and schools, training projects for young artists across the South West and co-created heritage projects.

Stage Door is Good Chance Theatre’s flagship programme dedicated to creating bespoke paid trainee opportunities for creatives from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds. The programme celebrates and nurtures creative industry professionals while addressing the imbalance of opportunities available to people who have been displaced.

Purpose of the role

To produce the Connections Festival 2027 in collaboration with the Engagement Team.

National Theatre Connections is the National Theatre’s annual, nationwide youth theatre festival and comprises of venues all over the country hosting Youth theatre productions of scripts written specifically for young people. Bristol Old Vic has been a partner venue for the festival for over 13 years and will host 8 youth theatre productions over a week in March 2027.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Being the main point of contact for the festival
• Coordinating information between eight local groups, various teams at BOV (marketing, production, operations) and key staff at the NT
• Creating schedules for the festival and all the groups involved
• Booking staff and spaces
• Coordination of workshops and technical theatre training
• Visiting all the groups home performances
• Booking catering
• Working as part of the Engagement team- you will be provided with a desk in the office and will attend team meetings
• Delivering the festival week alongside the NT director, stage manager and BoV Engagement Team
• Evaluation and budgeting

Person specification

This traineeship is offered as a professional development opportunity open specifically to people from a refugee or asylum-seeking background with lived experience of forced displacement.

Essential

• An interest in theatre, the arts and working with people and young people
• Good written and verbal communication skills and organisational skills
• Experience of using Microsoft Office or similar
• A team player, capable of working under your own initiative when required
• Be able to prioritize your workload to account for multiple projects and busy periods
• Be personable, adaptable, kind and flexible and willing to work on evenings and weekends occasionally if required
