If any, or all, of these things sound like you, and you would love to spend two weeks with us, then The DK Experience, our remote programme, might be the perfect match for you!&nbsp;&nbsp;Who are we?We’re DK (Dorling Kindersley), the biggest publisher of illustrated non-fiction in the world. We make books covering everything: travel, gardening, cookery, history, children's stories… you name it, we’ve probably got a book on it! &nbsp;We’re looking for creative and passionate candidates to join us on the DK Experience, a paid two week work placement within one of our departments. As much as we’d like to, high demand means we’re unable to offer everyone a place and we’ll be in contact to let you know if you have been randomly selected this time. We will not contact the unsuccessful candidates however if we don’t have a place for you on this occasion, please do keep trying.&nbsp;Where are you from?The programme requires no degree or previous publishing experience and aims to open the doors of our industry to participants from underrepresented regions, communities and backgrounds. Publishing is traditionally very London-centric and people from London or the Home Counties (Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex) or who are based in these regions, have traditionally been advantaged in gaining access to the industry.&nbsp;This programme is instead for anyone originally from, or currently living, in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and parts of England outside London and the Home Counties. Please do not apply if you are currently living in, or originally from, London or the Home Counties (If you are from London, we do work closely with LDN and they may have programmes&nbsp; which might be more suitable for you. You’ll also come from an experience or background that is currently underrepresented in publishing. This could include, but is not limited to, coming from a socio-economically marginalised background, being of Black, Asian or minority ethnic heritage, having a disabled and/or neurodiverse experience or living with a long-term health condition, or belonging to an LGBTQ+ community.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please note, this programme is not aimed at candidates who already hold a Masters in Publishing.&nbsp;What you'll be doingThis exciting opportunity will be completely remote. All you need is a computer, wifi connection, the right to work in the UK and to be able to commit to two weeks’ full-time work. We’ll be taking you behind the scenes of our publishing house and introducing you to all the different areas of the industry. While you will be placed in a creative department, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn about all the other areas of our company. You’ll attend meetings, try your hand at a variety of editing or designing tasks and get involved in a fun group project with other people on the placement. This role would be perfect for you if you have a keen interest in current affairs, politics and comedy.&nbsp;You will have some AP experience already and will be looking to gain further experience and skills – for this role you will need to be engaged and focused with the self-discipline to sometimes work alone and also have initiative, the confidence to ask questions, present ideas and contribute to the editorial as part of the creative team.&nbsp;&nbsp;What you'll be doingAs an AP you will have varied responsibilities, which include:<ul><li>Reading a selection of newspapers and online news sources to pick out stories suitable for the show, as well as any funny quotes, pictures or interesting facts that might be used on the show.</li><li>Working with the Producers to make newspacks for the writers.</li><li>Monitoring social media for viral clips and stories, as well as news accounts and political accounts.</li><li>Contributing to round ideas and editorial content (i.e. stories we can use on the show, or for Odd One Out round ideas and Missing Words suggestions)</li><li>Working with the other Assistant Producers to write questions for the host to ask the panellists on the show.</li></ul>&nbsp;What we are looking forAs an AP, you will learn on the job and be provided with support and mentoring that is needed to develop your research skills and abilities.
