Trainee assistant animator (stop frame)
Start date: 22nd August 2022
Full time: 40 hours per week
Contract: 6 months fixed term (with a 12 week probationary period)
Salary: Bristol Living Wage (£9.90 per hour)
Location: Aztec West, Bristol
We are looking for a stop frame trainee assistant animator to join one of our productions at our Aztec West studio in Bristol.
We are looking for applicants who are keen to develop their stop frame animation skills and want to learn how to animate with clay to a professional level. Some evidence of animating/sculpting with clay would be an advantage but this isn’t essential.
What you will learn
- To keep the Animators supplied with the required clay puppet components
- Learn to clean, prepare and test puppet mouths, arms etc. ready for shooting
- Work to improve sculpting skills under the supervision of more senior Assistant Animators to become competent at sculpting a variety of characters to the required level for shooting
- Learn how to check the schedule board in order to prepare for upcoming shots and ensuring any required elements / tests are completed / ready in a timely fashion
- Animate animation tests or blocks as required by production/ schedule to develop animation skills
- Learn how to maintain clear communication with both the Production Department, Animators, Modelmaking, Rigging and Art Department and be aware of how the studio floor operates
- Learn how to prepare models for and assist in the shoot stills
- Develop their skills so that they can fulfil the Assistant Animator role without the need for supervision
- To observe the Health and Safety at Work Act
