In Documentaries, we want to make programmes that create headlines, reveal and challenge. We are a broad church, commissioning more than 300 hours a year, from 24 Hours in Police Custody and First Dates, to Jeremy Kyle Show: Death on Daytime, Barrymore: The Body in the Pool, and Crime and Punishment. Job purpose
To oversee and editorially manage the department's programmes and to commission documentaries. The role involves working creatively with independent production companies and liaising internally with many departments.
 
Key responsibilities

Under our newly appointed Chief Data Officer we are creating a centre of excellence spanning research, analytics and data science partnering with the whole group, including our core subscription business, our Economist Intelligence, Economist Impact and Executive Education and Events businesses. Our purpose is to better understand and affect the drivers of our business through data analytics and research, with a focus on our users, B2C customers and B2B clients. We are value-focused and outcome-driven: we help drive growth and agility at every level, whether through informing strategic alignment and decisions, providing quick feedback loops to operators or creating machine learning models to be integrated into our products and marketing communications.
In this role, you will contribute key deliverables to help us to bring data to a wide audience of stakeholders around the business. Our dashboards currently reside in Qlikview, Qlik Sense and Google Data Studio, but we are starting an exciting transition of Business Intelligence (BI) to Tableau. You will translate requirements into Tableau dashboards, using best practice data visualisation guidelines, ensuring content can be consumed with the minimum effort possible.  Our goal is to drive up dashboard usage to facilitate more data-driven decisions, and to enable self-service BI across all verticals at the Economist.
 
Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Deliver regular reporting using data visualisations in Tableau</li>
<li>Create impactful data visualisations that drive action in Tableau</li>
<li>Build using a template to ensure consistent look and feel for the end user</li>
<li>Present your findings to stakeholders and iterate on dashboards to keep them relevant  </li>
<li>Identify ways to automate currently manual processes, using Tableau to visualise</li>
<li>Provide end-user training in Tableau in an engaging way</li>
<li>Share your Tableau knowledge with others across the team and company to help build a Tableau community</li>
<li>Help to ensure best practice visualisation standards are employed in the team’s Tableau content</li>
<li>Build the right Tableau published data sources to enable self-service BI</li>
<li>Gather new business requirements and collaborate closely with our users</li>

Knowledge, skills, experience

Economist Impact’s Policy &amp; Insights team specialises in delivering research and engagement programmes that use evidence and data to drive change on the critical economic and public policy issues facing our world. Our clients include government bodies, international organisations and corporates, and we provide evidence, insights and advice to shape their policies and programmes.
Economist Impact’s Policy &amp; Insights team in EMEA is looking for an analyst to work within an internationally-focused and diverse team. The successful candidate will support our consulting and research projects with strong public policy and thought leadership components. Candidates can either choose to be based in London or Dubai. 
Our four core thematic practice areas include (1) Health, (2) Globalisation, Trade &amp; Finance, (3) Sustainability, Climate Change &amp; Natural Resources, and (4) Technology and Society. We also deliver work on a wide range of issue areas aligned with sustainable development goals, including education, migration, future of work and international development. We are open to candidates that want to work across these themes, or specialise in one to two themes. 
This role is initially for a fixed-term contract of 1-year, after which the intention is for the role to convert to a permanent contract.
 
How you will contribute:
<ul>
<li>Prepare and deliver research inputs for client consulting and research projects, including literature reviews, interviews, benchmarking, data collection, interpretation, analysis and presentations</li>
<li>Work with Project Managers to present interim project and final project deliverables to clients</li>
<li>Work with colleagues around the world to prepare scoping documents and proposals for potential clients, helping to interpret their research requirements</li>
<li>Support the Economist Impact Policy &amp; Insights team's efforts to deliver excellent project results across policy analysis, scenario planning, political and economic analysis, and risk assessments.</li>
<li>Research, understand and interpret regulations so as to support cross-country policy analysis.</li>
<li>Develop methods and approaches for research that will help to scale up the Economist Impact Policy &amp; Insights business and ensure consistent quality of output</li>
<li>Work with senior staff and project managers to deliver projects to strict deadlines and within budget, ensuring achievement of agreed revenue and contribution targets for their own projects</li>
<li>Maintain effective relationships with other parts of the Economist Group</li>
</ul>
 
The desirable skills for this role include:
<ul>
<li>Previous experience in a role related to policy or economic analysis and fulfilling client projects; ability to conduct literature reviews and other background research, organize and analyze data, and write up findings clearly and concisely</li>
<li>Graduate/postgraduate in Social Sciences, Economics, Government Affairs, Public Policy or International Relations, or Statistics</li>
<li>Knowledge: A strong understanding of macroeconomic and demographic concepts; strong numeracy and data analysis skills, and familiarity with legislative/regulatory concepts; interest and some familiarity with a range of public policy sectors, including development economics, sustainability, technology, finance, etc</li>
<li>IT and communications: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel; excellent communication skills</li>
<li>Excellent written and spoken English</li>
<li>Fluency in additional languages highly desirable</li>
