Reports to: Social media manager

Department: 4Studio

Location: Leeds / London

Are you interested in social media trends? Want to create and schedule compelling content across multiple YouTube accounts?

The recently-created 4Studio is the engine room for C4’s digital acceleration strategy, with the mission to create, adapt and distribute brilliant content across the key social media channels. We work very closely with key people and departments within C4 to make this a success.

4Studio is based in C4’s new National HQ in Leeds and is a key component of C4’s regional strategy, creating creative job opportunities outside London and expanding the diversity of the company’s creative contribution.

Job purpose

Channel 4 is a world class entertainment brand. The Social team within 4Studio is responsible for further building our world class social media presence. Part of this is a project to release more and more longform programming onto our YouTube (YT) portfolio.

We are looking for an assistant channel manager to help us achieve our objective; this person will support our YouTube channel manager, publishing our longform content to different accounts within our YouTube portfolio.

The assistant channel manager will build publishing calendars to syndicate a wide array of content across multiple YouTube accounts, crafting social copy, obtaining all relevant sign offs and -crucially - ensuring all content is optimised fully to reach the right audiences, with the right metadata and keywords to ensure distribution is maximised. In addition they will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to report on performance.

They will work closely with 4Studio’s Strategists and Designers, (who’ll be making the thumbnails), as well as linear teams to ensure we receive the content in a timely fashion, and analytic roles to assess trends, analyse engagement, help inform publishing strategies and ensure our content reaches the widest possible audience.

Key responsibilities

Content publishing & channel management

  • You will support the Channel Manager in publishing and scheduling all content across all YouTube accounts for long form assets. This will include optimised metadata, copy and some channel management across accounts.
  • You will be familiar with the YT content management system (CMS), and skilled with using spreadsheets to help track and monitor scheduling activity
  • You’ll be interested in social media trends and adept at using content discovery and social media monitoring tools to assess the landscape in real time and ensure our accounts are timely and engaging
  • You will understand how the different platform algorithms can impact performance, and know how to optimise content in the best possible way to extend reach and engagement

People skills

  • You will be given some autonomy, but you need to be able to judge when something needs escalating
  • You will need to be able to use data to feedback insights into key stakeholders, and then suggest and articulate re-prioritisation of content outputs accordingly
  • You will be required to manage the sometimes-competing demands of key stakeholders. Cool under pressure and excellent powers of persuasion are required.
  • You will need to be able to explain both problems and solutions in layman’s terms. This will be important when “managing upwards”
  • You will need to have a good working relationship with Legal & Compliance. They are there to make sure we stay the right side of the line rather than to clip your wings. Channel 4 was Born Risky

Measurement & reporting

  • You will be required to work with Analysts to produce regular updates that will be shared with senior management and the executive team
  • This requires the ability to use social media measurement tools and present the information in a clear, concise way
  • Whether something has gone well or badly, you will be required to learn lessons from what has been done and be able to apply those lessons, so we keep on improving

Essential experience & skills

  • Demonstrate significant experience of using scheduling tools, creating social publishing calendars and engaging with communities with a specific YouTube focus
  • Demonstrate significant experience in optimisation of social content on YouTube to reach bigger and/or focused audiences. You’ll know why thumbnails, titles, metadata and tagging are as important as what’s in the content itself
  • Demonstrate experience using social measurement and reporting tools, and how you’ve learnt from them to inform future social community management

Conditions

  • Most scheduling will be done in advance, but there may be occasions that require working at evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You will get time off in lieu for doing so
  • While we embrace agile working, you will be primarily expected to work from the Leeds or London office for a minimum of 50% of the working week. If you are on duty outside these hours you are welcome to work from the toilet or the moon as long as you get the job done

We welcome and encourage applications from candidates who are under-represented in the creative industries.

Please make sure that you state in your application that you found this role via Creative Access.
