Development assistant

Salary: £25,750 per annum
Contract duration: 12 months
Hybrid pattern: Up to 2 days/week remote working
Step into the world of arts fundraising & administration in this 12-month placement opportunity with the London Symphony Orchestra.
The role will offer an opportunity to work across the whole of the LSO’s busy Development department, gaining experience in all areas of the team’s work, including Individual Giving, Corporate fundraising, Events, and Trust & Foundations fundraising. What you will learn

- Understanding of how to operate as part of a team in a professional environment
- Developing and practicing administrative skills required across any professional working environment
- Direct experience engaging with a cross-section of donors, sponsors, fundraisers, and wider arts administration team
- Working with professional artists, particularly orchestral musicians
- Knowledge of planning and management software including fundraising databases for the performing arts, design software and diary management programmes
- Continued feedback on your progress and opportunities to reflect on learning and future interests
- Access to free LSO concerts and opportunities to attend LSO rehearsals.
Knowledge, skills, experience
- A strong interest in fundraising and relationship management
- Excellent organisation and administrative skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Strong communication skills with ability to convey ideas and information to a range of target groups and present a case articulately and concisely both orally and in writing
- Ability to plan effectively, setting up and maintaining systems to make best use of time and resources
- Highly motivated to work effectively both under own initiative and within a team
- Flexible attitude to work – prepared to help with other department tasks where necessary
- Enthusiastic, friendly, and positive mental attitude
- Ability to learn and retain new skills efficiently
- Excellent level of numeracy
- You might have some previous experience gained in the arts, media or broadcasting sectors, but this is not a necessary requirement
- An enthusiasm for music is also desirable.
