Are you ready for your next step up in theatre production management?

The Production Manager ensures the most effective use of people, systems and budgets within parameters set out by the Head of Production and Producer. They will support the work of the Almeida Production department in the planning and delivering of all physical aspects of the productions to the highest standard and within health and safety and licensing guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • To use the allocated production and technical resources available to the productions
  • To ensure resources are clearly defined and agreed with the artistic team in conjunction with the Head of Production and Produce rand to guide the design process through the agreed timeline
  • To develop and sustain a strong working relationship with the producer
  • To promptly cost a production at white card stage and assess safety, financial and practical issues and communicate the feasibility with the Head of Production and Producer
  • To feed back to the artistic team promptly on financial and practical issues and guide them to a version of their artistic vision that fits within the designated resources
  • To engage with the Almeida’s Health and Safety policies and generate the appropriate documentation including risk assessments, construction phase plans for the production safety file
  • To guide the production process-calling and chairing all necessary meetings, solving technical problems, finding outside contractors, monitoring the build of the set, drafting schedules and ensuring the smooth flow of information between the artists and all technical departments
  • To maintain accurate budget information and to forecast regularly the updated information to theHead of Production and Producer
  • To manage fit ups, technical rehearsals and preview periods, ensuring a safe working environment alongside the Chief Technician
  • To ensure all documentation and information is accurate and available to enable the smooth and effective transfer of productions where necessary
  • To work with the Head of Production on the forward planning of production budgets and allocation of resources
  • To keep up to date with all relevant H&S legislation and to help to develop and improve our systems of compliance and review
  • To work with the Head of Production and Chief Technician to book and hire necessary freelance and temporary show and production staff
  • To work with the Production Assistant on the contracting of show and production staff
  • To work with the Head of Production to develop and maintain policies and strategies to ensure
    • The efficient and responsible use of physical assets and other resources
    • Effective and appropriate internal and external communication,
    • positive and supportive working environment at the Almeida
  • To support the Head of Production, Production Assistant and General Management with building related projects and issues on Almeida properties including, organising contractors for maintenance and safety inspections, assisting with capital works projects, and management of the rehearsal room and prop store
  • Manage the Almeida storage provision, auditing regularly and ensuring that all productions and other equipment are stored safely
  • To undertake training as deemed necessary by the Head of Production

Knowledge, skills, experience

  • Solid experience of production management in professional theatre
  • Strong recording the delivery of productions at the highest artistic and technical level
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and their application to the theatre production process
  • Dedicated and committed with excellent focus and organisational skills
  • The ability to demonstrate excellent project management skills across several projects simultaneously
  • Budget literate with broad experience of managing complex production budgets
  • An excellent communicator and leader
  • Resilient with the ability to demonstrate and communicate enthusiasm and professionalism
  • Strong AutoCAD skills with the ability to draw and interpret plans
