Have a passion for books? A creative eye? Join an award-winning Publicity & Marketing team!

At Octopus we publish books for everyone. Our aim is to enlighten, nourish, entertain and most of all inspire readers and listeners everywhere. We’re looking for a creative and organised Trade Marketing and Events Manager to join our award-winning Publicity and Marketing team.

Responsibilities

  • The Trade Marketing and Events Manager will be responsible for creation and communication around all trade and consumer-facing marketing materials
  • The role will encompass event management, budget management, working across departments, liaising across the business, and relationship building
  • In your day to day role, you will work closely with booksellers, trade press, designers, commissioning editors and the UK and International sales teams
  • You will collaborate with your Publicity and Marketing colleagues to create innovative and effective press and marketing materials on frontlist titles, as well as working on and establishing ongoing projects within the team
  • You’ll be reporting to the Group Publicity and Marketing Director and the role will involve working across the whole Octopus Publishing Group list

Knowledge, skills, experience

Essential

  • This role would suit a sales or marketing professional with proven experience
  • You don’t need to have worked in publishing before but a creative eye and a passion for books is essential
  • You’ll be able to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently and will bring enthusiasm and new ideas to our publishing activities
  • You’ll be creative with an eye for detail that enables you to make eye-catching imagery for marketing materials, online sites, social media, as well as seeing design briefs through from conception to installation
  • Events, bookshop collaborations and creating strong visual identities for books will also be a big part of your job, so you’ll be up for a challenge and ready to make our books stand out from the crowd
  • This is a social role, you’ll be speaking with booksellers and colleagues across departments every day, often going to events, so you’ll need to be a people person
  • You will have strong copywriting skills and creative problem solving skills
  • You will be confident presenting your ideas at external and internal meetings
  • You’ll love a challenge and always be looking for new ways to make our books stand out

Desirable

  • While video and photoshop skills aren’t essential, they will occupy a decent amount of your time, so some prior knowledge of design/editing software will give you an advantage
