The aim is to break down barriers and myths and showcase the rich mix of roles and opportunities on offer within publishing.
Successful applicants will be mentored by individuals who have at least two years of experience in the industry, from across the different teams at Penguin Random House, including editorial, design, production, technology, sales, marketing, publicity, distribution and HR. The senior leadership team will also be mentoring. There are 90 places available on this year’s programme which is open for applications from today until July 11th.

<h3>How does the programme work?</h3>
Through the programme, Creative Access will find and match 90 people with mentors from across these <a href="https://www.penguin.co.uk/company/work-with-us/careers/work-in-publishing.html" target="_blank">different teams at Penguin Random House</a>. Where possible, mentees will be matched with a mentor working in the area in which they would like to work or progress their career in.
It will focus on individuals over the age of 18 from under-represented communities looking to pursue or progress with their careers in publishing. This could apply to students at college or university or those who have some professional experience (in publishing or wider industries). Also welcomed are applications from those not currently in education, employment or training.
The mentoring partnerships will run from September 2022 for six months, with an initial meet and greet session facilitated by Creative Access and monthly virtual meetings thereafter.

Do you want to be a journalist? In just four weeks you could gain a recognised journalism qualification while being trained at one of Europe’s leading media companies.
On the Become a Journalist Summer School from PA Training and the Google News Initiative, you will learn the essential skills of being a journalist — from the basics of news reporting, to video journalism, podcasting, digital journalism skills, media law and either feature writing or sport. You’ll finish the course with an NCTJ Certificate in Foundation Journalism.
 
What is it?
You’ll join us in our central London training centre to build your journalism skills through hands-on training – you won’t be sitting at a desk all day. You’ll be writing stories, making your own videos, recording your own podcasts, and putting digital skills into practice as you work towards a Certificate in Foundation Journalism.
The course is the gateway to becoming a fully-qualified journalist, and could help you bag a place on an NCTJ Diploma course to become a professional journalist, or win a journalism apprenticeship where you are paid as you train. It’s also worth 16 Ucas points.
You need to be over 18 as of 25th July 2022 to take part in this course.
 
Who runs it?
The course is run by PA Training and the Google News Initiative. PA Training is the sister company of PA Media -- the UK and Ireland’s national news agency who you may know better as the Press Association. They report on everything from the royals to football transfers; political dramas to the Bafta awards.
That means you’ll hear from experienced journalists and experts from Google, and you’ll learn how news organisations really work and the kind of jobs you might expect to do in them. You’ll also get to have lunch with working journalists and find out how they launched their careers – and their top tips for standing out and landing a job.
This qualification is awarded by the National Council for the Training of Journalists. The NCTJ is the gold-standard when it comes to journalism training, so employers and course-tutors will recognise that you’ve made significant first steps towards becoming a journalist.

Ola Animashawun - National Theatre Associate and Connections Dramaturg and the co-founder and Creative Director of the playwriting consultancy, Euphoric Ink. Ola is also a former Associate Director of the Royal Court Theatre and has also held positions as an Associate Artist, Dramaturg and Mentor for Belgrade Theatre, Cheltenham Everyman Theatre, Theatre Absolute, Shop Front Theatre, and Eclipse Theatre. He is an Alfred Fagon Black Champion of Theatre.
 
Juliet Gilkes Romero - Writer in Residence at the National Theatre attached to the New Work Department for 2022/2023. Juliet is the recipient of the 2020 Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Play with The Whip, the Roland Rees Bursary 2019, (named in honour of the co-founder of the Alfred Fagon Award) and the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Best Play Award 2009 for At The Gates of Gaza. Screen includes Soon Gone; A Windrush Chronicle.
 
Sara Bakhaty - Deputy Director of Marketing &amp; Sales at the National Theatre. Prior to joining the National Theatre, Sara has over a decade of experience spanning brand strategy, marketing and business development from her time working both in-house at the John Lewis Partnership and Live Nation as well as two leading advertising agencies, Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) and RKCR.  
 
Lisa Jonas (chair) - Assistant Director Business Planning &amp; Governance at the National Theatre. Lisa has had senior operations roles across a range of sectors and businesses spanning a 25-year career. This includes being Head of Operations at Creative Access between 2013 and 2016. In addition to her role at the National Theatre, she is also a part of the National Theatre Culture Team and is responsible for Access and Disability at the National Theatre.

Rawan Elsa: Archivist and Publishing Assistant, Peepal Tree Press. She is a paraprofessional archivist, with over five years of experience, and advocates for more diversity within the heritage sector, previously having worked at The Elizabeth Gaskell House, The Royal Exchange Theatre and at The University of Leeds Special Collections. Her background is in African and Caribbean literature(s). Humanities and archival work make her well placed to support Peepal Tree Press.   
  
Rhianne Deans: Editorial/Clearance Co-ordinator, Emmerdale. Rhianne has worked at ITV for nearly a year and has worked in TV since 2016, on shows including Cobra for Sky and All Creatures Great &amp; Small for Channel 5 in a variety of production roles. Along with her team in Pre-Production, she is currently responsible for processing and publishing scripts, dealing with any cast or crew queries, assisting Coronation Street and tackling any last minute or late queries.    
  
Shamima Noor: Communications Co-ordinator, Fuel Theatre. Shamina has worked in arts marketing for almost five years, previously Phoenix Dance, Yorkshire Dance and Leeds Playhouse. Plus freelance marketing support for companies such as Red Ladder Theatre Company, Rifco Theatre, Bradford Producing Hub and Transform Festival. She is a CLORE Leadership Emerging Leader (Cohort 2021), a Creative Access Alumni and Arts Marketing Association member representative.   
  
Sonny Hanley: Controller of Content Services, ITV.  Sonny has worked at ITV for 18 years in various different roles from Production, to Technology to Operations. He is currently responsible for the whole content supply chain; from getting programmes into ITV, processed out to transmission; video on demand platforms and customers around the world that buy ITV content. 
Aydodele Ogunshakin: Storyliner, Coronation Street. Ayodele started her television career in 2015 where she worked in production roles for companies including BBC and NBC Universal. She now works at ITV, and has been at Coronation Street for three years. She is a Creative Access alumni who joined ITV as an Assistant Storyliner but has since been promoted to the role of Storyliner. Along with her team, Ayodele pitches, develops and writes stories for the soap and has had success pitching for the show. 
  
Ian Cottrell: Director of Channel Operations, ITV (host). Ian started his career in the IT department at Yorkshire Television more than 15 years ago. Working initially in IT support and then across a broad array of IT and Broadcast projects before moving into his first senior role responsible for service management as ITV Head of Transmission. Ian is now responsible for managing ITV’s broadcast distribution supply chain, from scheduling through to distribution, working with a number of key partners such as Arqiva, BT, Deluxe, Ericsson and Globecast.

Do you like the sound of supporting the day-to-day running of a gallery whilst getting the chance to assist each department, over the course of the 4 months?
Pace Gallery’s internship programme offers a structured, well-rounded learning experience to support career development and provide opportunities in the arts sector to people from under-represented backgrounds.
This internship offers a thorough insight into every aspect of the commercial gallery world, including sales, marketing, exhibitions, operations, shipping and art handling. This position is aimed at those who would like to gain experience across the workings of the gallery and who, in return, can offer a new and different perspective. The key requirements are an enthusiastic willingness to learn, a can-do attitude and a proactive personality. The gallery's aim is to attract people who might not have thought about working in the arts sector before or who have not yet had the opportunity to gain experience.

Curate a virtual exhibition!
Throughout the duration of the internship, there will be the opportunity to curate a virtual exhibition of any Pace artist of your choosing using the knowledge picked up whilst shadowing various departments. After developing a curatorial concept, you will design an exhibition from Pace Gallery’s internal artwork cataloguing software, either using Photoshop, SketchUp, or 3D models. The aim of this project is to collate the skills and information gained of all aspects of running a gallery, whilst also having room to focus on specific areas of greater interest. This will then be presented internally at the end of the four-month placement.
