If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and you share a passion for Doubleday authors and titles, then this is a superb opportunity to gain an insight into the editorial process.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated editorial assistant to join the fiction team at Doubleday, the literary imprint of Transworld, publisher of some of the UK’s best-loved fiction and non-fiction authors.

From Kate Atkinson, Monica Ali, John Boyne, Marcus Zusak and Curtis Sittenfeld, to more recent publications such as Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead, Wahala by Nikki May, Tall Bones by Anna Bailey and Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield, Doubleday is a vibrant, dynamic list encompassing prize winners, bestsellers and fresh new voices, and we are looking for someone to join us at this exciting time in our evolution.

This opportunity is offered on a 6-month fixed term contract from August/September onwards.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the publishing director, you will be responsible for a wide range of administrative and editorial tasks, including checking proofs and jackets, writing copy, checking ebook ads, managing invoices, coding and payments, maintaining departmental systems, managing prize submissions and dealing with author and agent correspondence
  • You will also be tasked with arranging meetings, meeting preparation and research, and taking minutes
  • You will be responsible for liaising with the team and driving the Doubleday Twitter and Instagram feeds, and will have special responsibility for spotting opportunities to drive backlist sales through updating metadata and copy
  • You will form part of the team and will contribute to our discussions about submissions, strategy and the marketplace
